TLS signed “Marlene,” two pages, 8.25 x 10.5, personal letterhead, March 15, 1966. Dietrich writes to Hugh Beaumont of the Globe Theater in London [not to be confused with TV’s Ward Cleaver], whom she addresses as “Binkie.” In part: “I know you have your hands full with Noel’s play, but if you have a minute maybe you could give a phone call to the man you know at EMI, the big boss…. While in Australia in October 1965 I found that all my records were to be had in the shops except the English version of ‘Where Have All the Flowers Gone’…. I gave in and omitted it from the Dietrich in London (Pye) album. That means that there is no record of this song in the English language…. I do not know how this is possible (except for the personal vitriolic hate of my erstwhile friend Norman Newell). But this seems to old-fashioned to me that I cannot believe he would really keep the record off the market out of spite…. Do you think I should start suing them?…. The people demand the English version because I sing the song in English in my programme….” In very good condition, with intersecting mailing folds, wrinkling, pinholes, and light stains to first page. The signature is clean and completely unaffected. R&R COA.
