DS, signed “George Gershwin, May 7, 1926, New York (born Sept. 26, 1898),” one page, 8.5 x 10.26. A typed list of Gershwin’s stage and concert works up to early 1926, including such all-time classics as Lady Be Good, Rhapsody in Blue, and Concerto in F. Most entries include the place of first performance. Under the list of “Musical Comedies and Operettas,” Gershwin has also made the handwritten insertion “Primrose, London, 1924.” Gershwin evidently prepared this list at the request of K. D. Hurst, who wrote the article on Gershwin for the third edition of the standard reference Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians, published in 1927; a copy of the entry as published is included. (We are also offering, as a separate lot, the original transmittal letter from Gershwin to Hurst.) Intersecting folds (two vertical folds lightly touching first and last letters of signature), a hint of mild soiling, and slight trimming to edges, otherwise fine condition. Auction LOA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
