Description

The elderly Lindy sends a “change of plans” to his secretary after being diagnosed with cancer

TLS signed “C. A. L.,” one page, 8.5 x 11, personal “Argonauta” letterhead, March 22, 1973. Lindbergh writes from Maui to his secretary, Jean Saunders, in Darien, Connecticut. In full: “Following a change in plans, my wife and I are returning to Tellina for about a week—arriving Sunday, April first if we are on schedule. Would you please, therefore, hold all of our mail until after you receive this letter. I will stop at the post office to pick up whatever is not at the house.” After being diagnosed with cancer in the same year, Lindbergh moved from his home in Hawaii to New York for treatment. When he learned he was going to die, he returned to Maui, where he would be buried following his death on August 26, 1974. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope. In fine condition, with mailing fold lightly touching first initial of name. R&R COA.
