Herzl signs at his last Zionist World Congress

Hungarian-born Austrian founder of Zionism. As a correspondent during the Alfred Dreyfus affair, he determined that the solution to anti-Semitism was the establishment of a Jewish national state. He founded the Zionist World Congress in 1897. Vintage 3.5 x 5.5 postcard photo Max Nordau in a formal three quarter length pose, signed in ink, “Herzl.” Notation in lower border in another hand reads, “Souvenir du 6th congress zioniste, 23-28, auot 1903, adding the Hebrew month and year "Ellul 5663" at the conclusion. This was to be Herzl’s last Congress as he died a year later. In fine condition, with stamp and address panel filled in on reverse, and a touch of light toning to border of image.
