One of the 20th century’s most famous American writers. From his experience in the Spanish Civil War came his great novel, For Whom the Bell Tolls. He was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1954 and guaranteed his renown by committing suicide in 1961. Pristine ink signature and inscription, “To Fran, Best always, Ernest Hemingway,” on an off-white 5.25 x 4 slip, to which was later added a quote from For Whom the Bell Tolls, which reads, “Any man’s death diminishes me because I am involved in mankind; and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee.” In fine condition.
