DS, five pages, 8.5 x 11, December 1, 1943. An agreement related to Fields’ role in the film Three Cheers for the Boys, specifying his compensation ($25,000) and provisions related to wardrobe (most of which is to be provided by Fields himself), publicity rights, and the like. Fields is also to conduct himself “with due regard to public conventions and morals” and to “not do or commit any act or thing that will tend to degrade you in society or bring you into public hatred, contempt, scorn or ridicule, or that will tend to shock, insult or offend the community….” In addition to signing in full at the conclusion, Fields has also initialed provisions on pages four and five. The film in question was evidently released in 1944 as Follow the Boys, a wartime musical chock-full of celebrity cameos; Fields’ segment featured a demonstration of trick billiards shots. In fine condition, with light marginal stain to first page, mild handling wear, and typical file and staple holes. PSA/DNA Auction LOA and R&R COA.
