Description

Not even Holmes? “I don’t think anyone could possibly have solved that mystery”

Scottish author (1859–1930) whose stories featuring fictional detective Sherlock Holmes revolutionized the genre of crime fiction. Holmes himself would eventually earn a place among the most familiar and durable characters in the annals of English literature, and his exploits would inspire countless incarnations on stage and screen. ALS signed “A. Conan Doyle,” one page, 5 x 7, personal letterhead, April 18 [the year 1930 added in another hand]. Doyle writes to Lord Gorell. In full: “May I say how interested I was in your ‘D— H—.’ I confess that you had me guessing completely. I don’t think anyone could possibly have solved that mystery. It was very deftly done.” In fine, fresh condition. R&R COA.
