American statesman (1740–1809) who served as Washington’s secretary during the Revolutionary War, second Speaker of the House of Representatives (1791–93), and Governor of Connecticut (1797–1809). ALS signed “J. Trumbull,” one page, 7.75 x 9.5, November 30, 1803. Trumbull writes to John Porter in Hartford. In part: “I mentioned to you the probability of my making sale of some public securities. If this should be the case, I shall want the money by the 1st April next—to aid in my Brother David’s affairs. Will you be upon the look out for me. I shall be in Hartford perhaps before long. I will see you upon the subject. In very good condition, with seal-related staining, hole and tear touching a few words of text. The signature is dark, clear, and completely unaffected. R&R COA.
