Brooklyn-born sculptor and painter (1863–1937) best known for his large-scale, Beaux Arts–influenced sculptures. ALS, four pages on two adjoining sheets, 4.5 x 6.75, July 14, 1912. The artist writes to “My dear Frost.” In part: “The man who made these portraits of me was a Hatian [sic] gentleman who stood in front of our hotel … daily & photographed mild Frenchman posing in frantic attitudes of precipitous descents on stationary sleds & toboggans…. I induced Mrs. MacMonnies to have herself one—but she has refused since to permit distribution of the result. It would be impossible to reach the southern artist as he confided to me he only came north for the season…. I am getting on with my groups for the Public Library & I would be greatly pleased if I had your opinion upon them….” Tiny marginal ink smudge to one page, otherwise fine condition. R&R COA.
