Program for an event honoring Arthur Miller “for distinguished achievement in the Dramatic Arts” sponsored by the Philadelphia Chapter of the American Friends of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, 6.75 x 9.5, September 27 [1959], signed and inscribed on the cover in ballpoint, “To Stevie—Happy Bar Mitzvah! Marilyn Monroe.” Miller and Monroe—who had converted to Judaism in order to marry the eminent playwright—were wed on June 29, 1956. After a stormy relationship that included a collaboration on the film The Misfits (Miller writing, Monroe starring), the couple obtained a Mexican divorce on January 24, 1961. In the year she signed this program, Monroe appeared in what was arguably the greatest screen performance of her career, as “Sugar” Kane Kowalczyk in Some Like It Hot. Light scattered soiling and a few very faint stains, otherwise fine condition. PSA/DNA Auction LOA and R&R COA.
