Obliging a collector in the midst of his wartime recovery

Union general (1824–1886) who distinguished himself in the Battle of Gettysburg. War-dated ALS signed “Winfd. S. Hancock, Maj. Gen. U.S. Army, Comdg.,” one lightly lined page, 5 x 8, Headquarters Second Army Corps letterhead, June 27, 1864. Hancock obliges collector Charles Speakman. In full: “In obedience to your request I give you my autograph.” At the time of writing, Hancock was recovering from a wound that would keep him from resuming his command until the following month, on July 27. A few stray tiny ink marks, otherwise fine, bright condition. R&R COA.
