Description

“The wonderful mysterious architectural affair of Carrere and Hastings”

American artist (1870–1966) best known for his luminous, often fantastic landscapes and romantic illustrations of nudes. His 1920 painting Daybreak was extensively reproduced, becoming the biggest-selling print of its day. TLS, one page, 8.25 x 11, March 9, 1916. Parrish writes to fellow artist Frank Vincent Dumond (1865–1951). In part: “I have your letter … about the wonder mysterious architectural affair of Carrere and Hastings, but I cannot come to the dinner at the Union League Club on Monday evening…. It is almost impossible for me to get away from here in the winter time: it is a long day’s journey to New York and even longer coming back, and just at this writing nothing can get over in Windsor, five miles off, on account of the snow.” In very good condition, with staple holes, mild wrinkling, and a few small edge tears and tiny spots. R&R COA.
