Description

Celebrating the senatorial victory of a fellow Democrat

Eminent American senator and statesman (1813–1861), dubbed the “Little Giant,” perhaps best remembered for his role in the Lincoln-Douglas debates during the 1858 campaign for the Senate race in Illinois. ALS signed “S. A. Douglas,” one lightly lined page both sides, 8 x 9.5, December 15, 1849. Douglas writes to Thomas B. Conall. In part: “I am resoundingly rejoiced to learn that you have become a member of the Senate of your glorious State. It augurs well for the … success of the Democratic Party in future contests. I will show your letter to our friend the General today & request his cooperation. Mrs. Douglas joins me in our warmest regards….” One light mailing fold touching signature, otherwise fine condition. R&R COA.
