Description

FRIENDS IN LOW PLACES: JFK inscribes an oversized photo to Representative Daniel Flood, later forced to resign in a bribery scandal

Impressive vintage matte-finish 11 x 14 photo of Kennedy seated at a desk, boldly signed and inscribed in fountain pen in the blank lower border, “For Dan Flood—With the esteem and warm regards of his old colleague, John Kennedy.” Daniel J. Flood (1903–1994), a longtime and widely respected Pennsylvania politician, was a colleague of Kennedy’s in the House of Representatives. The two became close associates and personal friends, and when Kennedy ran for the presidency, Flood convinced him to campaign in his home district—and, indeed, Pennsylvania was one of the crucial states that Kennedy carried in that legendarily close election. In the latter stage of his career, Flood was censured by the House on charges of bribery, leading to his resignation in 1980. Archivally suede matted and framed to an overall size of 18 x 21. A few spots of subtle soiling, and light brushes to a few words of inscription, otherwise fine condition. While all signed photos of Kennedy are highly desirable, examples of this size are quite elusive. Auction LOA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
