ALS signed “Vivien,” one page, 8 x 10, personal letterhead, December 28, 1966. Leigh writes to “My darling George” [Oscar-winning director George Cukor, 1899–1983]. In full: “Your beautiful Christmas presents should keep me—the family—& all visiting friends in pristine condition for months to come—thank you Darling so much. Your Christmas card too is a masterpiece. How lovely to see your dear face again. I wish, wish I saw it more often. I miss you & think of you…. My fond, fondest love….” Cukor was the original director of Gone with the Wind but was fired after three weeks; throughout the remainder of production, however, he continued to coach both Leigh and costar Olivia deHavilland. Leigh died seven months after penning this letter, on July 8, 1967. In fine, clean condition. R&R COA.
