Description

The ‘Yodeling Cowboy’

Pioneer of commercial country music known as “The Yodeling Cowboy.” Rodgers successfully blended jazz, African-American blues and Southern mountain music to reach a nation-wide audience. He also perpetuated many of country music’s themes such as loose women, hard-drinking men, one night stands, loneliness and love. Being diagnosed with tuberculosis did not stop this dedicated musician from working, although at one point the disease had progressed to the point where he had to rest on a cot between songs. He died on May 26, 1933, having continued to record until just six days before his death. Vintage sepia matte-finish 8 x 10 photo, signed and inscribed in purple fountain pen “To my pal, Dud Detdrly, Sincerely, Jimmie Rodgers 2-12-29.” In very good condition, with a tack hole to each corner, missing lower right corner tip and some scattered light silvering and soiling. R&R COA.
