Eliot’s The Cocktail Party, for which he is to be paid $1000 per week “as a guaranteed minimum against seven and one-half percent of the gross box office receipts.” Guinness signs in full on the final page, along the with the producer, multiple Tony winner Gilbert Miller (1884–1970); both Guinness and Miller have also initialed the first two pages and an attached rider slip related to billing. The play, one of T. S. Eliot’s greatest successes, opened on January 21, 1950 and ran for 409 performances. It was also the Tony winner for Best Play of 1950.
