ALS signed “Wm. H. Taft,” two pages, 5 x 7.75, personal letterhead, March 24, 1915. Taft writes to Professor A. H. Patterson at the University of North Carolina. In part: “Your Howard seems to have diagnosed the case of the Corsican at Oyster Bay [i.e., Roosevelt]. It may be Elba where he is, but it looks a little like St. Helena. A correspondent of mine writes me of an appreciation of T.R.’s genius by a speaker who said, ‘T. R. is a greater naturalist than Burbank who can only make one vegetable or fruit out of another, because T. R. has succeeded in making a bull moose into a goat.’” Accompanied by the original mailing envelope addressed in Taft’s hand. In fine condition, with a touch of mild soiling and a few faint brushes and small smudges. Auction LOA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
