Description

A DADDY IN THE WHITE HOUSE: Rare TRUMAN presidential ALS

Extremely rare ALS as president, one page, 7 x 9, White House letterhead, September 12, 1951. Truman writes to his friend Bob Connelly. In full: “Thank you very much for the record ‘I wish I had a Daddy in the White House.’ It is a dandy. You are a thoughtful young man to remember that the President appreciates being considered by the sons of his staff. May all your years ahead be happy ones. I did get a ‘big charge’ out of the record.” Accompanied by the original transmittal envelope, addressed in Truman’s hand, “Mr. Robert Connelly, By hand through the courtesy of the President’s Secretary.” Robert Connelly was the son of Truman’s executive assistant, Matthew Connelly. The single “I Wish I Had A Daddy in the White House” was recorded in 1951 by Kitty Kallen. Horizontal mailing fold and faint, trivial toning, otherwise very fine condition. Auction LOA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
