The first American to win four track and field medals in one Olympics. The performance in Berlin in 1936 made him both an Olympic hero and a lasting symbol of black pride. His father was a sharecropper and his grandfather a slave. Original AAU National Championship program, 8.5 x 11, from Palmer Stadium in Princeton, New Jersey, held on July 3-4, 1936. Signed on the cover in pencil, “Jesse Owens.” In fine condition, with light soiling and handling wear and pencil notations to cover and inside event scoring pages. Owens attended Ohio State University only after employment was found for his father, ensuring the family could be supported. He was affectionately known as the "Buckeye Bullet" and won a record eight individual NCAA championships, four each in 1935 and 1936. Auction LOA Steve Grad/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
