Writing to a general in Cuba in the aftermath of the Spanish-American War

Teacher and humanitarian (1821–1912) best known for organizing the relief organization the American Red Cross. ALS, one lightly lined page, 8.5 x 11, American National Red Cross letterhead, January 22, 1900. Barton writes to General E. G. Rathbone. In part: “I am happy to inform you that your esteemed favor … was received by me, but seeming to pertain more directly to Dr. Hubbell (being something that I knew nothing about) I passed it to Dr. Hubbell, who I am sure has replied to it with due care and reference….” In very good condition, with a few tears and small holes to blank portion, a touch of wrinkling and mild soiling, and a few small spots. The writing is clear, dark, and unaffected throughout. R&R COA.
