Highest recommendation in the land: Polk ALS as president

ALS as president, one page, 7.5 x 6, April 7, 1847. Polk writes to Treasury Secretary R. I. Walker. In full: “Mr. Ricketts of this city was presented to me by Mr. S— Colquith of Georgia, who vouched for him as a person of good character—and in all respects meritorious. I promised Mr. Colquith to bring his case to your notice. Will you do him the favour to see him? He will explain to you his wishes.” Matted and framed with a nineteenth century engraving to an overall size of 13.5 x 20. One mailing fold touching signature and a few mild wrinkles, otherwise fine, bright condition. Auction LOA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
