American political cartoonist and illustrator (1840–1902) best known for devising the donkey and elephant symbols of the Democratic and Republican parties. ALS signed “Th: Nast,” one page, 5 x 8, October 11, 1872. Nast writes to Charles H. Morse. In full: “I thank you for your kindness in sending me the ancient bill.
