Signed and inscribed on the reverse of the half title page, “To Kergan & Kerena & Ashton III from Muhammad Ali, July 31, 78.” Some mild page toning, diagonal crease to signed page, affecting nothing and some light wear and creasing to front cover, otherwise fine condition. Ali lost his title in February 1978 to 1976 Olympic champion Leon Spinks. In losing to the novice Spinks, Ali became the first heavyweight champion in the entire history of boxing to lose his title to a novice who had only seven professional fights. In the September rematch in New Orleans at the Superdome, Ali was given a 15-round decision over the disoriented Spinks. Then on June 27, 1979, he announced his retirement and vacated the title.
