Description

Worth waiting for: As he completes work on his masterpiece, Welles asks an ardent fan to “postpone any talk of a [fan] club until after you have seen CITIZEN KANE”

Outstanding TLS, one page, 8.5 x 11, Mercury Theater letterhead, November 18, 1940. Welles writes to Ray Skony in East Chicago. In full: “I have a firm conviction that the person who has not yet completed a motion picture does not deserve a Fan Club. I appreciate your interest and am very flattered by it, but I’d really like to postpone any talk of a club until after you have seen CITIZEN KANE which should be released sometime in January. Thank you for writing.” In fine condition, with a touch of mild soiling and tiny tear to bottom edge. A superb and highly desirable association with the film widely regarded as the greatest of all time! R&R COA.
