Outstanding vintage matte-finish Burke photo of Ruth in his Yankee uniform, slightly trimmed in size to 7.5 x 9.5, signed and inscribed in fountain pen, “To Win Schuster from Babe Ruth, August 15, 1933.” Schuster owned the East Douglas baseball team in the Blackstone Valley Baseball League, where future Hall of Famer Hank Greenberg got his start. Before Greenberg signed a professional contract with the Detroit Tigers, he played for East Douglas, hitting a home run his first time at bat. Schuster, who owned the team, the woolen mill, and just about everything else in town, was so impressed by this feat and so desperate to make sure that Greenberg would continue to play for his team that he gave the teenager $175 on the spot, then the equivalent of two months’ wages for the average working man. In fine condition, with trimming as noted, signature and portion of inscription a shade or two light (but completely legible), and photo affixed to a same-sized heavy card.
