Handwritten original poem, signed “from a faithful friend, John Quincy Adams,” one page, 5 x 5.5, Bangor, September 17, 1840. Adams writes, in full: “Searchers for Truth, as antient [sic] legends tell,/Must seek her, at the bottom of a Well./A chilling Truth! A warmer and a better/Find, Lady, at the bottom of this letter.” Mounting remnant along one edge of reverse showing through and causing some wrinkling, otherwise fine condition. A terrific example from one of our most poetic presidents! LOA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
