Description

Precocious: Scarce document signed by the English king who was crowned at the age of thirteen months

British monarch (born 1566) who ruled as James VI of Scotland from 1567 and as King of Great Britain (the first ruler so designated) from 1603 until his death in 1625. During his reign as England’s first Stuart king, James authorized the well-known version of the Anglican Bible which came to bear his name and oversaw his country’s involvement in the Thirty Years’ War. Scarce manuscript DS, in Old English, signed “James R.,” one page, 7.75 x 12, 1596. An untranslated document, evidently an official appointment. In very good condition, with archival reinforcement to folds (slightly touching first letter of signature), mild scattered soiling and wrinkling, and a few faint stains, well away from writing. LOA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
