Description

Scarce Darwin signed carte-de-visite portrait: a natural selection!

English naturalist and author (1809–1882) whose book explaining his theories of evolution, On the Origin of the Species by Means of Natural Selection (1859), takes a place among the most influential texts in the history of scientific thought. Vintage sepia 2.5 x 4 carte-de-visite photo of Darwin seated in profile by O. C. Rejlander (and so noted in bottom border and on reverse), signed and inscribed in black ink on the reverse, “Dr. Schwerzen from Charles Darwin with kind regards, Feb. 3rd 1877.” In fine condition, with some scattered light foxing to bottom border of image side and reverse. Crisp image and neatly penned signature make a bidder’s selection of this item natural. LOA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
