Description

Flamboyant showman whose exotic exhibits included midget Tom Thumb, Swedish Nightingale Jenny Lind, and the counterfeit Feejee Mermaid. Ink signature, “Truly Yours, P. T. Barnum, New York,” on an off-white album page, dated March 24, 1871. Matted with a portrait of Barnum, to an overall size of 10 x 15. In fine condition. In Brooklyn, New York in 1871 with William Cameron Coup, Barnum established P. T. Barnum's Grand Traveling Museum, Menagerie, Caravan & Hippodrome, a travelling amalgamation of circus, menagerie and museum of ‘freaks,’ which by 1872 was billing itself as “The Greatest Show on Earth.” R&R COA.
