Description

Off the cuff: “I have no reason to complain in view of my laziness in not preparing a formal address”

TLS signed “Wm. H. Taft,” two pages on two adjoining sheets, 5.5 x 9, War Department letterhead, April 6, 1905. Letter of thanks after returning from a visit to Worcester, Massachusetts. In part, “I reached home safely, though somewhat tired, Sunday afternoon. I found I had contracted a cold, which was still with me. Notwithstanding these unpleasant consequences, I very much enjoyed my trip to Worcester, and much appreciate the kindness and hospitality shown me by your good self…as well as by the members of the Board of Trade of Worcester who attended the magnificent banquet…I thank you for the copy of the paper you sent me, which gave on the whole a very good report of the speech, and of which I have no reason to complain in view of my laziness in not preparing a formal address.” In very good condition, with toning along bisecting horizontal fold and edges and light haloing to signature. Auction LOA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
