Two items: 1) TLS signed “Bill,” one page, 7.25 x 10.25, personal letterhead, May 22, 1968. Styron writes to Chester Kerr at Yale University Press. In part: “Since Arthur Miller, Cal Lowell, Jules Feiffer and I will be in Oregon on Friday campaigning for McCarthy, I hope you will understand why I can’t accept your kind invitation to come to lunch.” 2) TLS signed “Bill,” one page, 7.25 x 10.25, July 27, 1968. Styron writes again to Kerr. In part: “I am, naturally, interested in knowing the date of our appearance before the Credentials Committee…. I shudder to think of making to trips to Chicago in August, but since fate seems to have committed me to the life of a politician, it looks as if there is no way out. Trust McCarthy and The New York Review of Books to demolish a good summer.” Accompanied by an unsigned carbon of a letter from Kerr to Styron. In fine condition, with a few light wrinkles and staple holes and small paperclip rust stain to one letter. R&R COA.
