Description

Dealt a bad hand? Kipling pays off a wager with a pair of gloves, observing, “Gambling is a low game”

ALS signed “R. K.,” one page, 4.5 x 7, Brown’s Hotel, London letterhead, no date. Kipling writes to “Timmins dear.” In full: “I send you the gloves which I lost on that most unfair bet of yours. This is because I am honest. I send you also a pair of flesh-colored [crossed out: “tights”] suede gloves. This is because of my love for you. Very affectionately….” After signing, Kipling adds a postscript: “Gambling is a low game.” Tiny smudge to “K” of signature, otherwise fine, crisp condition. R&R COA.
