Description

Lame-duck nostalgia: “Being absent from the contest for the first time in thirty-one years was a new experience”

TLS, one page, 6.5 x 8.75, White House letterhead, November 13, 1968. Johnson writes to Colonel R. P. Rosengren. In part: “It was kind of you to think of me when the ballots were being counted on Election Day. Being absent from the contest for the first time in thirty-one years was a new experience—one I will have to get used to as I return to teaching. I was deeply moved by your courage in serving as Chairman of Republicans for Humphrey in the East. I am sure that most of your fellow Republicans will ultimately respect you for putting principle before party.” Framed to an overall size of 7.5 x 9.5. In very good condition, with overall toning and a touch of mild soiling. LOA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
