American sculptor (1850–1931) best known for his monumental historical works, most notably the sculpture that forms the centerpiece of the Lincoln Memorial. Partially printed DS, one page, 5.25 x 8.25, March 24, 1911. An order form for a copy of the book The Photographs of Abraham Lincoln by F. H. Meserve at the cost of $35.00, signed “Daniel C. French,” the artist adding his New York address and his Massachusetts address “after May 15.” Frederick Hill Meserve (1865–1962) a noted historian and renowned collector of Lincoln and Civil War photographs, was the first person to undertake a comprehensive study of the iconography of the sixteenth president. Subsequent editions of the book brought Meserve’s work to a wider audience, and it has since attained a place among the canonical texts of Lincolniana. In fine condition, with light horizontal fold through address and pinholes with tiny rust stains to blank top margin. R&R COA.
