Hanging tough with the Progressives two months after losing the election: “I wish I could do more”

TLS signed “T. Roosevelt,” one page, 6.75 x 7.5, The Outlook letterhead, January 4, 1913. Roosevelt writes to Henry M. Wallace of the National Progressive Party in Detroit. In full: “I do not believe I can get any man now. Cochran is abroad, Beveridge I have tried in vain to get for Maine. I will write to Dixon at once. I only hope he can come.” He then adds a final sentence in his own hand: “I wish I could do more.” Paperclip impression and a touch of mild soiling at top edge, otherwise fine condition.
