Legendary beauty of the American stage. Nesbit carried on a notorious affair with the eminent architect Stanford White, and was, purportedly, the model for the nude statue of Diana that topped one of White’s most famous creations, Madison Square Garden. In 1906, Nesbit’s outraged husband, Harry K. Thaw, fatally shot White in the rooftop theater of the New York landmark, leading to the first sensational murder trial of the new century. Vintage matte-finish 8 x 10 photo, signed and inscribed in fountain pen “To Genevieve Owes, Sincerely, Evelyn Nesbit 1933.” In fine condition, with several edge and corner creases and a couple of small edge tears. R&R COA.
