Description

The “Sleeping Prophet” on probation

American psychic and author (1877–1945) who became a pop-culture celebrity in the early decades of the twentieth century. Though a number of his “prophecies” (including predictions that Depression-stricken 1933 would be a “good year” and that American scientists would discover a “death ray” from Atlantis in 1958) have an air of comic irony about them, his teachings gained wide currency within the proto-New Age movement of his time. His activities as a “healer” led to an arrest for practicing medicine without a license in the 1930s. Scarce TNS at the bottom of an 8.5 x 11 letter sent to him dated August 4, 1936. Cayce responds to a letter sent to him by James D. Ross, Chief Deputy Probation Officer at the Recorders Court in Detroit. The letter, addressed to Cayce in Virginia Beach, reads in full: “I am in receipt of your report for the month of July, and enclose a blank form for your August report.” Cayce responds: “Believe this relieves you, of me does it not.” Mailing folds touching signature, otherwise fine condition. Cayce is quite uncommon in autograph material, particularly in examples with such a direct and interesting relation to his controversial career. R&R COA.
