Description

Three ALSs from the builder of the Monitor

American army engineer who designed and built the ironclad Monitor for the US government. Terrific lot of three multi page ALSs on lightly lined sheets, each signed “J. Ericsson,” dated in 1859. One letter begins, in part, “I have read Mr. Cangli’s letter with mingled feelings of anger and amusement. Our friend always cautious to place himslef inthe wrong…& be very smart. I have for two years coveted suggestions of improvements and in reply to the sweeping assertion that our engines are very imperfect asked for a list of the supposed defects, with a promise that I would most cheerfully make ammendments. The list never made its appearance. “In very good condition, with some scattered light edge toning, small tears and paper loss to spots at edges and couple small notations. R&R COA.
