Signing as “Napoleon” just weeks after becoming Emperor

LS in French, signed “Napoleon,” one page, 7.25 x 8.5, May 2, 1804. Letter to his cousin. In full, “In your report on the situation of various regiments, I do not know what causes you to believe that the 24th Light Infantry Regiment today consists of 1989 effectives. I believe there is an error of at least 300 men. At Nantes and at Boulogne there is no such number. I pray God to keep you under his Holy and worthy care.” Letter is affixed on the reverse of one edge to a slightly larger sheet. In very good to fine condition, with two rusty paperclip marks to top edge, intersecting folds and some scattered light soiling. As full a signature as you will find.
