Description

Getting his news the old-fashioned way

Famed Luftwaffe pilot (1919–1942), nicknamed the “Star of Africa,” who was Germany’s most effective ace during World War II, on one occasion achieving eight victories in ten minutes. Killed during a plane accident, Marseille was immortalized with a one-word epitaph on his tombstone: “Undefeated.” Very scarce 4 x 3.5 photo affixed to a 6 x 7.25 mount, picturing Marseille and two other men studying a kiosk plastered with notices, boldly and beautifully signed on the mount in fountain pen, Marseille adding his rank, “Oberleutnant und Staffelkapitän.” A pristine and unusual example from this most elusive and desirable of German aces! In very fine condition. R&R COA.
