Description

Lonely G-Man-turned-soldier Purvis pines for the missus: “No one will ever know how my heart aches to see you”

FBI agent and archetypical “G-Man” (1903–1960) responsible for the capture of John Dillinger, “Pretty Boy” Floyd, “Baby Face” Nelson, and other notorious baddies. ALS signed twice in full in the text and “Melvin” on the final page, two pages, 8 x 10.25, April 17, 1944. Purvis, then a lieutenant colonel in the army, writes to his wife, Rosanne. In part: “I wrote you V mail this morning…. I am sorry you have not been receiving my letters. I do not understand that because I have written you every day…. I hope you and the two little boys are all well…. I would give anything if I could see them. No one will ever know how my heart aches to see you…. I love you more than anything in all the world…. I live in hopes. So many times I have wished I could talk over things with you because they involve decisions…. Everything I do is done with you in mind….” So much for the tough-guy image. In fine condition, with usual mailing folds, mild toning, and small authentication label to lower corner of second page. R&R COA.
