Bar tab? George II authorizes payment to the Constable at the Tower of London

King of England from 1727 until his death in 1760. DS, signed “George R,” one page, 9 x 14.5, May 23, 1733. A document authorizing payment to John Earl, “Constable of our Tower of London” in the amount of “One Hundred fifty Three pounds and eight pence … for Safe-keeping Prisoners in the said Tower” from May 5, 1731 to December 24, 1732. Also signed by [Robert] Walpole (1676–1745), the Whig politician generally regarded as Britain’s first prime minister. The document was previously sold by famed dealer Charles Hamilton and is accompanied by a typed transcript on Lincoln Library letterhead. In fine, clean condition, with usual light folds (tiny edge separations), a few minor wrinkles, and a touch of very mild scattered toning and soiling. COA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
