A document authorizing payment to John Earl, “Constable of our Tower of London” in the amount of “One Hundred fifty Three pounds and eight pence … for Safe-keeping Prisoners in the said Tower” from May 5, 1731 to December 24, 1732. Also signed by [Robert] Walpole (1676–1745), the Whig politician generally regarded as Britain’s first prime minister. The document was previously sold by famed dealer Charles Hamilton and is accompanied by a typed transcript on Lincoln Library letterhead.
