American businessman (1862–1932) who headed the Sears, Roebuck retail chain. TLS, one page, 7 x 11, Sears, Roebuck and Co. letterhead, June 20, 1918. Rosenwald writes to Macy’s magnate Nathan Strauss and his wife. In part: “The expressions of genuine joy which greeted me upon my home-coming last evening as a result of the beautifully bound copy containing the events of that memorable Sunday would have delighted you as they did me…. Our children enjoyed with us, not only the thoughtfulness of your attention, but the beautiful sentiments contained in your letter, dear Mrs. Strauss to Mrs. Rosenwald; and also the inscription in the book itself. Our youngest daughter said ‘I supposed you’ll keep that in the safe.’ We shall always prize it highly as a mark of mutual affection and esteem.” In fine condition, with usual mailing fold and mild toning.
