Knox orders a payment to an “Invalid pensioner”

Revolutionary War general, first Secretary of War, and founder of the military school that became West Point (1750–1806). DS, signed “H. Knox, Secy.l of War,” one page, 8 x 12.25, March 21, 1793. A secretarially penned document ordering John Cochran, New York Commissioner of Loans, to pay “Invalid pensioner” Gustavus Aldrich “the Sum of Six Dollars and thirty three and one third cents.” In very good to fine condition, with folds (short edge separations repaired from the reverse), two blocks of light uneven toning, and a touch of soiling.
