Description

Douglass signs a land document

Former slave (1818–1895) who lent his eloquent, powerful voice to the abolitionist movement. Partially printed DS, signed “Fredk. Douglass,” two pages both sides, 8.5 x 14, November 16, 1881. A “Deed of Trust” involving the transfer of some land, signed by Douglass in his capacity as Recorder of Deeds in Washington, D.C. In good condition, with soiling and toning and usual folds (with partial separations and pinholes at intersections), Douglass’ signature nonetheless remaining clear and dark. R&R COA.
