Hindenburg approves the use of his name for a war-relief effort

TLS in German, signed “von Hindenburg,” one page, 8 x 10.25, Chef des Generalstabes des Feldheeres letterhead, February 5, 1918. Hindenburg writes to Mayor Rody of Niederlahnstein. In part (translated): “I agree with your wish to ascribe my name to the foundation that was raised in your city to benefit war-disabled veterans…. I hope that this generous ‘Hindenburg War Foundation 1917 for Niederlahnstein,’ the founding of which I welcome with gratitude and joy, will contribute to healing many wounds caused by the war!” In very good condition, with letter affixed to same-sized card, slight trimming to top and bottom edges, usual folds, light toning and soiling, and slight feathering to signature.
