American writer best known for his tales of Californian mining camps, including “The Outcasts of Poker Flat” and “The Luck of Roaring Camp.” DS, two pages, 8.25 x 10.5, November 14, 1883. Shipping invoice for a load of cotton aboard the steamship Indiana imported from Pennsylvania, signed on the second page by Bret Harte as Consul of the United States of America at Glasgow, attesting to a payment of fifty-two pounds. In very good condition, with storage folds, several fold separations, scattered toning and several stamps and notations. R&R COA. Featured collection item.
