Fifteen years before becoming Chief Justice, Taft writes to the Reporter of the Supreme Court: “I was elected by the American Society of International Law as one of its Vice-Presidents”

TLS signed “Wm. H. Taft,” one page, 5.5 x 9, War Department letterhead, January 15, 1906. Taft writes to Charles Henry Butler, Reporter of the Supreme Court. In part: “I find … I was elected by the American Society of International Law as one of its Vice-Presidents, and that Mr. Root was elected President of the Society. It gives me great pleasure to accept the invitation, and I thank the Society for the honor it does me.” In fine, crisp condition, with usual mailing fold. COA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
